Standard
Semester Grades: Students are graded at
the end of each course, in accordance with the grades and symbols authorized
by the University Faculty Senate, as follows:
A= Outstanding
B+
B=Good
C+
C=Satisfactory
D=Poor (not used in graduate courses)
F=Failing
S= Satisfactory (Graduate Research or "N" credit)

Other
Grade Symbols:
-
"TB+, TB, TC+, TC, TD, TF and
TZ" grades: These
grades are used for all incomplete and temporary grades in undergraduate
courses and are also used in some graduate courses (for details, see below).
Temporary grades are given at the discretion of the instructor when the
student has not properly completed the course requirements (i.e., major
assignments or examination). Except for the TZ grade, the letter
grade following the T represents the grade the instructor would
assign if the outstanding work were to remain uncompleted. The temporary
grade becomes permanent if the work is not completed as required (see "TZ"
grade below). When the student has completed the required work, the instructor
will assign a permanent grade. In no case will this permanent
grade be poorer than the assigned temporary grade. Instructors
should specify a time limit for completing the course requirements prior
to December 2004. The Registrar must be notified of the change of
grade on the appropriate grade change form.
-
"TZ" grade:
Temporary or incomplete grade is used only in undergraduate courses, and
should only be assigned when a student is unable to finish his/her course
work due to a verifiable emergency situation. The student and faculty
member should endeavor to reach an agreement as soon as possible as to
how the course should be completed. The TZ will have no immediate
effect on a student’s GPA, however, if the situation is not resolved within
the Fall semester, the TZ will convert to an F, and the GPA will be recalculated
accordingly. ("TZ" is not used in graduate courses).
-
“NG” grade:
Where no grade is assigned on the final grade roster by the faculty member
the Registrar shall assign NG (No Grade Given) for both undergraduate
and graduate coursework. The NG will have no immediate effect
on the student’s GPA, however, if the situation is not resolved within
the Fall semester, the NG will convert to an "F" and the GPA will be recalculated
accordingly.
Graduate
Grades - In addition
to the regularly assigned grades above, the following apply only to
graduate coursework:
-
"IN" grade:
"Incomplete" is used only in courses offered by the graduate schools.
Anyone to whom you assign an "IN" may have any time period you agreed-upon
(up to one year to complete the work, but up to two years in Graduate School
of Education and College of Pharmacy, Pharm.D. courses). It is your
responsibility to see that the agreed-upon date is adhered to, and to notify
the Registrar of the final grade on the appropriate grade change form.
"IN" becomes a permanent grade after one year, except in the Graduate School
of Education where it converts to NO/CR and in the College of Pharmacy,
Pharm.D. where it converts to "F" after two years.
-
"PA" or "NC" grade:
Only used for graduate level courses in the School of Education for students
who opt for Pass/No Credit. All other School of Education courses receive
regular grades.
-
"S" or "U" grade:
Graduate students registered Not-For-Credit ("N") credit-hour prefix
must complete all coursework except for the final exam and are graded
"S" (Satisfactory) or "U" (Unsatisfactory). ("N" prefix will precede
credit hours on roster and must be chosen at time of registration).
