Eligibility
Students at Rutgers University must meet certain eligibility requirements to receive financial aid. Basic requirements include:
- the student demonstrates financial need
- the student is a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
- the student is enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program
- the student is making satisfactory academic progress
- and more
The amount of Pell and Direct Loans is established based on the student’s need as determined using data from the FAFSA and federal regulations. The amount of state aid is determined by the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority. Institutional aid may be based on need or merit. Merit based aid is typically determined by Admissions or the student’s school. Need based aid is determined by the Office of Financial Aid and is based on the student’s need and availability of funds.
